I am organising a competition for the Second year B.Tech Students of my college
The contest is this:
Some problems will be given to them..for which they will have to design some solution.
for eg.
1.Depending upon the strength(no of people) of the class appropriate amount of lights should glow and only appropriate number of fans should function ..others should be turned off. When no one is there in the class all electrical appliances should be switched off.
Design a methodology to implement this.!
the problems should be simple or a bit hi-fi and should also be implemented in the real life situation.
Im running short of ideas..or rather running short of problems...
i need some problems of the above mentioned type...it can be any field...but engineering students should be able to visualise the problem.
can anyone help

I enjoyed going through your questions. Thanks for sending them.
Just a thought on the motor control based on water level. Based on what I tried to implement in my house, I used 2 detectors at 2 levels of the tank so that by itself it forms a good hysteresis loop. No need for timer here. The lower level switches it on and the upper level triggers it off. Also a small timer on the low level sensor to avoid running the motor dry, which would switch it off if the level is not reached say a minute or two after starting the motor.

you got to have a network cable configured as a null modem. you can get it in any shop that sells cables. when they fix the jack, tell them that it is for connecting 2 computers (as against a computer and a router). It is just a mater of swapping 2 wires.
Once you have the cable between the 2 comps, you could set ip addresses for the 2 cards. make sure you have the ips in the same subnet. (like
192.168.0.1 and
192.168.0.2). and you are done !

[tech4all] Problem Related to Flow Transmitter
Hi, To all Techies,
I am working in Process Industries as an Instrumentation Engg.
We r here facing a problem...which is related to Flow Transmitter..
BACKGROUND:
there is 3 Flow Tx. A, B & C
installed for monitoring the air flow using ORIFICE PLATE...
All the three Tx. is installed for the same flow monitoring i.e. sensing element i.e ORIFICE plate is one...
Tx. are installed on the same impulse line tapping from the ORIFICE PALTE, with neccesary valve manifold.
Problem:
Indication of all the 3 should be same as expected but it is not showing so, there is allmost difference coming of 1000 kg/hr in indcation, in the span of 30,000 kg/hr.
All the transmitter are new and individually tested and calibrated, and there is no Question of Tx. Fault..
I request if any one in this group has come across such type of problem....come up with reply so that furthur discussion can be done ...

The dates given here are for 2003, and then it was as close as it comes.
However, it is nearly as close this year, and you will be able to see it
well this autumn, with it beeing closest on October 30th at 0319
Universal Time.
