Re: [tech4all] need help regarding hard disk

Hi Thameem

Pls check whether the Harddisk is partition in the
first place. If not, you have to partition the hard
disk first to get what you want it to be . Otherwise
it will show as a new disk.

I think what would help would be more information on the drive. Is it
IDE ATA? What kind of partitions are they Windows Primary,
Secondaries, Logical or Physical. Are they FAT32 or NTFS(or even
Ext2)?

Also it would be helpful to know which OS you are booting into.
Windows XP, 98 or otherwise?

Re: [tech4all] need help regarding hard disk

Make sure the jumper sirring are proper for the hard disk B with is a slave to ur hard disk. Jumper settings tell the bios that the drive is master or slave, the jumper settings vary depending on the company so check the manual of that hard disk

[tech4all] Pharming scams

<DIV> <P><FONT size=4><STRONG>Pharming scams</STRONG></FONT></P> <P>A new threat to online transactions called "pharming" has emerged which can illegally redirect users to fraudulent web sites. This latest form of attack redirects Internet users from legitimate Web sites to malicious ones using a strategy called DNS cache poisoning. Although DNS cache poisoning is not new, the complexity of the new pharming attacks is cause for concern.</P> <P>The "Pharmer" inconspicuously hijacks your computer and coerces it into taking you to a copycat web site. The site it takes you to is most commonly a page that looks identical to that of your bank or financial web institution. From this point, they have trapped you into submitting your vital passwords and financial information straight into their databanks. The process can be compared to switching a street sign on a driver in a new city, sending them down the wrong street. Similarly it can also be compared to switching the names connected to phone numbers in a phone book, when a user goes to look up a name, they end up calling the wrong number.</P> <P>More specifically, when a user types a URL, such as www.google.com, into their Internet browser, a request goes to a local DNS (Domain Name System) server, which then locates the registered IP (Internet Protocol) address for the Web server. When a hacker poisons a DNS server, they change the IP address for a domain and send visitors to a completely different Web site, usually without their knowledge. </P> <P><B>Be aware that Pharming scams take several forms:</B></P> <UL> <LI>A hacker could break into an Internet service provider's DNS servers and switch legitimate addresses stored in the server's "cache,'' a temporary holding area, with bogus addresses in a practice called "DNS poisoning," as stated previously. <LI>A scam artist could pretend to be a Web site's operator to persuade an Internet registrar to make the change to the bogus address in the registration database. <LI>Attackers could use malicious code, such as a virus or Trojan program, planted on a user's PC to track keystrokes or change a computer's settings to take users to fraudulent copies of legitimate Web sites they request. <LI>Hackers could also target the 13 "root" DNS servers that route all Internet traffic. </LI></UL> <P>One way to check to see if the site you have been directed to is real is to look for the gold lock icon, usually located in the bottom right corner of your browsers screen. If the icon does appear, click on it to verify a secure connection. However, keep in mind that the lock does not "guarantee" security. It is only a temporary security solution as there is no telling when the hackers will be able to perfect this icon to look legitimate.</P> <P>So, better be careful.</P> <P>&nbsp;</P></DIV><BR><BR><DIV> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#80ff00><A href="mailto:bharath_m_7@yahoo.co.in"><FONT color=#80ff00></FONT></A><FONT face=verdana>&nbsp;</FONT><FONT color=#8b8b8b><FONT face=verdana>&nbsp; My Email </FONT>:</FONT><FONT color=#80c0ff>&nbsp;&nbsp;</FONT><A href="mailto:bharath_m_7@yahoo.co.in"><FONT face=verdana color=#80c0ff><STRONG>bharath_m_7@yahoo.co.in</STRONG></FONT></A><FONT color=#80c0ff>&nbsp;</FONT></P< DIV> </DIV> <DIV> <DIV><FONT face=verdana><FONT color=#737373>&nbsp;&nbsp;Visit My Email blog here :</FONT><FONT color=#80c0ff> </FONT></FONT><A href="http://www.email2blog.blogspot.com/"><FONT face=verdana color=#80c0ff><STRONG>http://www.email2blog.blogspot.com</STRONG></FONT></A></DIV></FONT></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV><p> <hr size=1>Yahoo!             Jeevan

This might be caused by a firewall which you installed. Other source of problems could be service pack XP-2

there are ways around it but you should check with your ISP how to do this, since this is IP dependant...

Keep me posted how you go

RE: [tech4all] I seek a circut diagram from the HP 21MX CPU ( 2112B )

Hi,

About your problem, i am not sure about the processor or the board, but i
think that you must sort this problem out with the PCB vendor or the people
doing PCB assembly. You can use an option of discussing your faults in the
board with the concerned device manufacturer, too. My request to you is that
please address such problems with some more details, so that we may tell you
to whom you may approach, too.

regards,

Saroj Kumar Satapathy

authenticity of your mail before posting. Such things are sure fun to
read but can be disastrous, imagine giving it as an example in a

Re: [tech4all] need help on cam and crank sensors

I take it he wants to measure the rotation of the cam/or crank. This
could be done with an Opto-Interrupter and wheel - basically the
innards of a mouse. Depending on the application - you may get away
with gutting a mouse, keeping the board and sensors and just plugging
it into a USB port while running the right app.

If you are using a PIC then some of them come with ports than can be
programmed to act on interrupts and use those to increment a counter.
The Opto-Isolator,generally one IR emitter and one receiving
Photo-transistor, may need to then be connected to a transistor to
bias it, or simply have a pull up/pull down resistor attached
(depending on if you want to trigger on leading or trailing edges).
This transistor assembly can then be plugged into the digital pin, and
to read it, you just read the delta (difference) of the counter.

Cheers,
Danny

[tech4all] ARM tools by ARM - Seminar @ BLR/HYD/NewDelhi (May 2005)

ARM tools by ARM

http://www.arm.com/events/ARM_Seminar_India.html

Seminar on Development system and Virtual Platform
Tools

Development Tools

RealView® Developer Suite is the latest in the
well established ARM product family of fully
integrated software solutions. This RVDS suit
contains leading edge tools for creating and
debugging, efficient software to run on any
processors based on an ARM architecture.

Hardware Platform Solutions
ARM’s prototyping solutions are suitable for
architecture and CPU evaluation, hardware and
software design, and ASIC emulation. They allow
applications to be developed at near to real system
speed, thus reducing the time and risk associated
with producing final silicon. Particularly suitable
for ASIC emulation, peripheral development, OS
porting and writing device drivers, prototyping
products provide good visibility by allowing test
and debug equipment to be attached. ARM prototyping
products are modular so you can add additional
logic to expand the design as required.

The RealView® Integrator™ family and RealView
Versatile family of modular hardware platforms
enable early prototyping of ARM based products
before real silicon becomes available. Significant
reduction in development times can be achieved by
enabling system integration and testing, of
software and hardware, to begin early in the
development flow. The RealView® Versatile family
provides a highly integrated, feature rich
development system, with a flexible multi-layer AHB
bus structure.

Software Debug Solutions
RealView® software debug solutions are centered on
the two powerful software debuggers, the RealView
Developer Suite AXD debugger and the RealView
Developer Suite RVD debugger. For connection to
prototype hardware or real silicon there are two
JTAG run control solutions, RealView Multi-ICE® and
the RealView RVI. Where the target device
implements on board trace components, the JTAG run
control products are complemented by the RealView
MultiTrace™ and RealView RVT trace capture
solutions.

ESL TOOLS

One of the hottest topics in embedded system design
today is Electronic System Level (ESL) design. ESL
describes a SoC design in an abstract enough and
fast enough way to explore the design space and
provide virtual prototypes for hardware and
software implementation.

The ESL portfolio consists of three product key
products:

RealView ESL tools with MaxSim technology: MaxSim
technology enables highest simulation performance
with full cycle accuracy while allowing extensive
debugging of systems and software. MaxSim is the
ideal solution for SoC architecture exploration and
embedded software development.

RealView ESL tools with MaxCore® technology:
MaxCore is a comprehensive environment for modeling
and analysis of processors and processor
subsystems. MaxCore uses the powerful C-like LISA
language.

RealView Model Library incorporating MaxLib® model
library: RealView Model Library delivers a range of
models capable of spanning a SoC design process
from architecture definition through to register
transfer levels (RTL) verification.

Re: [tech4all] Firefox or IE ??? Which would be better

I'm on mac osx, and I have used Safari, but not as in depth or as
rigorously as I've used Firefox and Opera. I mainly use it to test out
webpages for compatibility reasons. I do all of my development using
Firefox. I haven't had any troubles with Safari, except that some of
the colors and images I use look a bit messed up. Ex. I've had
experiences where I'll create a png (8 bit, no transparency) using a
background color of #666666 (in pshop). Then I use the image on the
site with a background-color style of #666666. On Firefox and Opera
you can't see the image, however on Safari there is a definite
difference and as a result I had to use a gif instead.

BTW, On my sites, I no longer support IE because I too don't really
consider it a browser anymore.

Hope this helps some,
EB

If you are looking for configurable, Opera and
Mozilla/Firefox are a
great deal more so than IE. Firefox's extension system
allows for a
great deal of additional features and configuration to
be added in -
and it is designed to be fairly easy to create more
when required.

IEs only real advantage is that a decreasing number of
websites were
designed only to work in IE, and that every windows
box already has
it(on that ground it is most certainly a good choice
for the lazy ;-).
