for the comparison between java and .net follow the following link:

one thing is clear, .net applications can run on microsoft OSes only.
as far as job requirement are concerened, i hv seen the demand for
both technologies. which one is better is an endless debate and most
of the views u c are mostly biased depending on ones liking.
